The Final Solution: Concentratoin Camps and Extermination Camps

Excerpt from The Final Solution - U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum

"The Nazi 'Final Solution to the Jewish Question' ('Endlösung der Judenfrage') was the deliberate and systematic mass murder of European Jews. It was the last stage of the Holocaust and took place from 1941 to 1945. Though many Jews were killed before the "Final Solution" began, the vast majority of Jewish victims were murdered during this period."

Excerpt from Concentration Camps - In Context Middle School

"A concentration camp is a place where people are imprisoned without a trial. These camps “concentrate,” or confine, people in a small space. Throughout history, political prisoners and ethnic minorities have been held in concentration camps. Some are held for security reasons. Others are exploited by being forced to work under harsh conditions. A concentration camp is different from an extermination camp. The purpose of an extermination camp is to gather together many people to murder them. Both concentration camps and extermination camps were common in Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945."
